Teeth Whitening In Poole
Discoloured teeth can often cause people to feel self-conscious when it comes to smiling, laughing or even talking. At The Parkstone Dental Practice in Poole we believe that everybody deserves to have a smile they can be proud of. If you’re concerned about the colour of your teeth our cosmetic dentistry team offer tooth whitening services that achieve great results.
Your lifestyle can have an effect on the way your teeth look. The main culprit when it comes to the discolouration of your teeth is of course smoking. The tar and nicotine in cigarettes stain teeth causing them to initially become yellow before eventually turning brown. Many of the foods and drinks we consume on a regular basis, including tea, coffee, red wine, cola, curry and tomato-based sauces can also cause tooth discolouration.
There are two main methods of tooth whitening – one which can be applied in the comfort of your own home, the other which is performed in our surgery by our fully qualified and experienced dentists in Poole.
Teeth Whitening at Home
The dentist will provide you with a weak whitening gel and a whitening tray. Moulds of your mouth will be made to ensure that the whitening tray constructed specially for you fits your teeth perfectly. You will be required to apply the gel to your teeth using the tray at specified times over the course of a number of weeks.
Laser Teeth Whitening
More effective and much less time-consuming than home whitening is laser teeth whitening. This is your best option if you desire a whiter and brighter smile. Your lips, cheeks and gums will be covered in a protective coating, followed by your teeth having a strong whitening gel applied to them. A laser light is then directed onto your teeth for four 15 minute sessions, with the entire process lasting just over an hour. The results are instant and you will leave the dental surgery with a smile you won’t be able to resist showing off.
There are lots of other options for tooth whitening currently being marketed, however caution is advised when choosing them. Some beauty salons offer tooth whitening services but you must be sure the individual performing the procedure has the required qualifications, as it is dangerous and illegal to do so without. While any home whitening kit purchased from somewhere other than a dental surgery will likely not contain a high enough concentration of the whitening gel to have any significant effect on your teeth. As well as this the whitening trays provided will be ill-fitting as a consequence of not having been made specifically for your own teeth.
